Frequently asked questions

What size porch goose do your patterns fit?

Every pattern in the shop is sized for both 23" and 17" porch geese. The 23" size is the most common it fits standard concrete, cement, and most plastic lawn geese, including geese sold by Gaggleville and most local statuary shops. The 17" size fits smaller porch geese and some vintage models. We provide both sizes with your instant pattern download.

How do I measure my porch goose to make sure a pattern fits?

Your porch goose should be measured from the ground it sits on the the top of its head. If your goose is between sizes, size up rather than down as it's easier to take in a seam than to add fabric back.

What's the difference between a 23" and 17" porch goose?

The number refers to the height of the goose from the base to the top of the head. A 23-inch porch goose is the standard size and by far the most common. 23-inch Geese are what most Etsy sellers, Gaggleville, and local statuary shops sell as their default. A 17-inch porch goose is a smaller version, popular for indoor display or smaller porches. Our patterns work with both as you will receive a pattern for both sizes (unless otherwise noted), but they're not interchangeable a 23" outfit will not fit a 17" goose and vice versa.

Can I use these patterns on a concrete goose, cement goose, or plastic goose?

Yes to all three. Concrete, cement, ceramic, resin, and plastic porch geese are all roughly the same shape in a given size. The material of your goose shouldn't change the fit. As long as your goose is a standard 23" or 17" and shaped like a classic porch goose (not a cartoon-style or highly stylized version), our patterns will fit.

How do I download my pattern after purchase?

The moment you complete checkout, you'll get an email with a download link. You can also log into your account at porchgoosepatterns.com and download from your order history at any time. Your purchased files never expire.

Do you take custom pattern requests?

Yes, sometimes. If you have an idea for a porch goose outfit that isn't in the shop, email me with a description or reference photos. If it's something I think other customers would love too, I can add it to my design queue (usually 2-3 months out).

For one-off custom work, I take on a limited number of commissions per season pricing starts around $75 for a custom pattern design.

Can I return a ready-made outfit?

If your outfit arrives with a defect or doesn't match the listing description, email me within 7 days at hello@porchgoosepatterns.com and I'll make it right either with a replacement or a refund.

Do you offer refunds on digital patterns?

Because patterns are instant digital downloads, all sales are final. That said, if you have any problem with your pattern printing issues, unclear instructions, sizing concerns please email me at hello@porchgoosepatterns.com and we will help get your issue fixed. I'd much rather solve the problem than have you walk away frustrated.

What's the difference between a pattern and a ready-made outfit?

A sewing pattern is an instant PDF download containing the pattern pieces and instructions for you to sew the outfit yourself. A ready-made outfit is the finished garment, hand-sewn to order in my Colorado studio and shipped to you ready to put on your goose.

Can I print at a copy shop instead?

Yes, and it's much faster than taping pages together at home. Every pattern includes a copy shop file formatted for large-format printing at any copy shop, print shop, or office supply store. Just upload the copy shop PDF and ask for a print at 100% scale.

How do I print a PDF sewing pattern at home?

Print on standard US Letter paper at 100% scale (also called "actual size" not "fit to page" or "shrink to fit"). Every pattern includes a test square on the first page. After printing, measure it with a ruler to confirm your printer's scale is correct. If the square isn't the right size, adjust your printer settings and reprint just page one until it is the correct size then print the other pages to that specification.

Do I need to print in color?

No. All our patterns are designed to be readable in black and white.

What sewing skill level do I need?

Most of our patterns are beginner-friendly. If you can sew a straight line and follow a pattern, you can make them. Each pattern lists its difficulty (beginner, intermediate, or advanced) at the top of the listing.

If you're brand new to sewing, look for patterns tagged "beginner-friendly" and you'll be in good shape.

Can I gift a pattern?

Absolutely. You can either buy the pattern and forward the download link to the recipient (a lovely gift for a sewing friend), or buy a gift card from the shop and let them pick their own. Gift cards are digital and delivered instantly by email.

Can I share the pattern with a friend?

Each pattern purchase is licensed to one person. If a friend loves the outfit you made, please send them to porchgoosepatterns.com to buy their own copy. It's how we keep the shop running and can afford to make new patterns. Sharing pattern files is the fastest way to shut down small independent designers.

Can I sell items made from your patterns?

Yes. Every pattern in the shop is licensed for personal use and small-scale commercial sewing. We just ask that you credit Porch Goose Patterns as the pattern source in your listing or product description.
